I'm using a Ryzen 3600 with Tomahawk B450 and an ASUS R9 290 DirectCU. During AC Odyssey at 1080p I see around 3100-3350MHz. I notice a bit of 290 at 1075Mhz with 1280Mhz clock (it heats up), plus a power boost of 15% and a voltage drop of 13mV. The main advantage was fewer frame drops. I wondered if the CPU speeds are fine or if I should upgrade for better performance, remembering my older setup (4690K and Sabertooth Z97) ran at 90-100% utilization and AC was quite demanding.
Have you restored Windows following the upgrade? Are your BIOS and chipset drivers up to date? Which RAM configuration are you employing?
Check your temperatures with hwinfo64 or use Ryzen Master for Ryzen systems. Make sure XMP/DOCP is activated if needed.
Talking about temperatures, I doubt you'd attempt to overclock a 290 DirectCU II because the cooling was terrible for the VRM and memory. Since ASUS didn’t bother to replace the cooler, they just removed it from the GTX 780 and installed it on the 290. That’s just my opinion, but if you’re thinking about upgrading your GPU soon, maybe it’s worth considering.
I wasn't aware of that. Nice to learn something new, right? The 290 is a really powerful GPU, which might mean it throttles its performance due to heat.
Installed the newest 16GB 3200MHz drivers and bios. Swapped my Intel system last summer for the AMD setup. Sadly, the Ryzen had a defective core and was rewritten. Now I have the updated one. No crashes but it heats up more than before. During installation it hit 90°C, yet games stay around 70°C. I didn’t set the 4200MHz, perhaps the GPU is limiting the Ryzen’s performance... 86-88 in Cinebench 90 aida 65-75 AC with RM XMP on.
