Are there still problems with USB on Ryzen 5000 processors even when using the latest BIOS updates?
After talking to AMD, they suggested I try a different board. I purchased an X570S Tomahawk from Newegg for $370 plus taxes and express shipping. All the installation steps were completed, the BIOS was updated, and Windows was reinstalled. The process went smoothly. However, I’m still facing issues: none of the USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 ports are working, and the MAX X570S only has two USB 2.0 ports. I’m checking if Newegg will accept the open box and used unit, hoping AMD will issue a return label for my processor. I’m unsure what else might be wrong—even the C-State, PCI-E to Gen 3, and other BIOS adjustments aren’t resolving the problem on this second board.
In my view, AMD hasn't resolved the problem for all users. Based on what I've seen, some setups function properly while others encounter strange issues.
After some evening work on my Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite, everything seemed to come together mostly. Most USB devices functioned properly, though a few were initially unresponsive. Even after updates and tweaks, it wasn’t until I rearranged the drive letters one character up that things finally stabilized. My external SSD, which had been labeled I: in the new PC, started working again. The same happened with my two SD card readers. My external SSD is still a bit erratic, but it now reads large files without issues on other systems. I’m still puzzled, but progress is better now. I didn’t reattempt the Aorus board, but I noticed a big discoloration around the bottom corner of the VRM—about 2.5 inches in diameter—and my PC ran much quieter with the new board, sounding like a jet engine compared to the old one. It might have been overheating, causing the VRMs to leak grease and the fans to overwork. Whatever the reason, it’s a positive turn so far.
