I'm just somewhat hesistant to go messing with the audio settings and drivers on my PC for something I'm kind of skeptical about in the first place. If there were a way to test it out without having to make changes to my system, I'd do that.

This is exactly what a solid backup provides.
When handled properly, you can restore everything smoothly, facing minimal or no complications.

Does it sound similar to a restore point? I think that could be a good fit. If I test it, I'll share my thoughts afterward.

In my view, gaming headsets are subpar. Check out Antlion Audio for a solution that turns regular headphones into genuine professional-grade devices. They provide both wired and wireless choices.

Not too complicated. I believe the list is quite old and games have probably been added, since I mainly use it for First Person Shooters and it works well with BO 6 which isn't included.
You just need to adjust one setting in Windows:

That's all! Simple, easy!

I gave DTS Headphone:X a try, but it didn't really stand out. The sound direction felt just like standard stereo. Since I don't often play fast-paced games, the benefits there probably don't matter much.

At least you gave it a shot. If it doesn't work for you, that's fine.
Good luck on your adventure.
By the way, are you searching for on-ear gaming headphones? I bought these recently because they were quite affordable and have really impressed me:
