I verified my BIOS details:
Model name: Z790 Aorus Elite AX
BIOS version: FC
BIOS date: 03/07/2023
BIOS ID: 8ARPT050
Components and model details are as follows: BIOS version, power supply unit likely contributes to instability.
I haven’t adjusted XMP settings or performed any manual overclocking. To be honest, I haven’t touched anything performance-related on this machine.
Usually, if you assembled the system yourself, you should enable XMP in the BIOS and it will automatically detect the optimal stable frequency for your RAM. According to the Gigabyte website, your RAM runs natively at 4800mhz but can reach up to 6400 under XMP. If it were my setup, I would upgrade the BIOS and then activate XMP to check the results. But each BIOS update carries a risk, so keep that in mind.
I disagree with the XMP suggestion. For troubleshooting, it makes more sense to keep the RAM at standard (JEDEC) settings. Activating XMP only introduces another factor affecting stability.
OP: There are reports of RTX4090s experiencing overcurrent spikes that can overload the PSU and raise the OPP safety threshold. This could point to a GPU problem—especially after you’ve checked all other items on your list. The “minor artifacting in my browser” seems concerning.
From
MSI: “…a 450W RTX 4090 can have a transient spike of up to 1350W”
EDIT: I’d also run Memtest86 overnight. It’s more thorough than Windows Memory Diagnostic.
