Choose the FX-8350 for long-term use; it’s a solid investment that may lead to another GPU upgrade later. It’s not cheap, but it outperforms the FX-4300 in multi-threaded scenarios. As multithreading becomes standard in graphics APIs, Mantle is leading the way with DirectX12 and OpenGL, while DirectX 12 continues to expand.

GA-990FXA-UD7 for FX-4300? That sounds like a mismatch. The GA-9900FX-UD7 is a high-end board... It might have been better to consider GA-990FX-UD3 or MSi 970 Gaming Use instead. If you have leftover funds, you could upgrade to a budget CPU cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

I’m aiming for a $1000 investment here. I’ve got a 240g Kingston SSD, a 320g WD Blue for extra storage, an Evo 212 from my previous build, and an 8GB ADATA 1866 kit. I plan to pair it with a Corsair 450D and have a 680W PS unit already installed. This is going to be a budget ultra gaming rig.

I still think the 4300 is okay. You won't drop 1000000FPS nor will you boost to 100000FPS when switching to Intel, but I recommend going with a 6300 or any eco variant of the 8xx series to align with your motherboard.

The FX-6300 offers slightly improved performance compared to the 4300, though a FX-83XX would likely be better suited for those using a 970.

I recommend the FX-6300. In my country it's quite affordable—just $75.

I own an FX-4300 connected to a 650 Ti and 8 GB RAM; unfortunately, the CPU struggles with gaming. Frames keep dropping even when GPU usage stays low, pointing to the CPU as the main issue. I've tried overclocking but it hasn't improved performance. I'm worried this model won't handle newer titles well. If you're considering a 970, skip it—go for an 8350 or an Intel i5 instead.
