AM3 or Intel 1155 — choose your processor wisely!
You received an AM3 Athlon CPU because those processors lacked any L3 cache, which significantly reduced performance. A Phenom II X4 (such as 940, 945, 955, 965, or 960T) would outperform a standard Athlon II X4 quad-core. The Phenom II X6 offered six cores for around $40, making it a much better value compared to the $15 Athlon II X4.
I required funds for the AM3+ motherboard; I’ll get a Phantom later. The Athlon was affordable and a solid choice for Windows 10.
Consider upgrading to a Ryzen Athlon 200ge or 220ge paired with a B450M series motherboard and the most affordable single stick of DDR4 8GB RAM available. The cheapest RAM option you can find will match the performance of a Phenom II quad-core processor. You can also attempt to overclock these chips on B450 boards. A320 boards are budget-friendly but don’t support OC for Ryzen chips, so you might need to wait for better options later. For higher speeds, look into R5 1400 or 1600 models. However, the AM3 platform is subpar, meaning even the fastest current chip performs similarly. If it were an FX-4300, the Athlon 200ge would likely surpass it.
Hoe gaat het? Je weet wel dat een fx8320 wordt verslagen door een i3 van die tijd in games?
They're not worth it. Those CPUs really can't handle modern games anymore because they lack the necessary instructions, and they fall far short of comparable i5 models. You could find a Dell mid-tower with an i5 2400 for under $100, which would be perfect for intense gaming.
