Also adds complexity. I'm not familiar with laptop cards. It might be safer to get the same one that came with the laptop. Make sure they match in terms of connections. Most seem to use M.2, but I'm not certain.

Testing with a cable was difficult because the device was a laptop, making it hard to position near the router. Switching the WiFi card often worked or didn’t, depending on the laptop brand and model. Certain changes were successful, others failed, and some required a particular model.
