All games ceased functioning unexpectedly.
I crafted a gaming machine for my son's birthday that performed perfectly until last week when it abruptly stopped working. The configuration includes an AMD Ryzen 5 7600x with six cores, 32 GB of RAM, Windows 11, an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, G.Skill RipJaw S5 32 GB, and a 1 TB SSD from Western Digital. The setup has been running smoothly for gaming titles like BF2042, COD, Fortnite, Star Wars Fallen Order, and Roblox. This system is solely dedicated to gaming and light website tasks—just browsing and order processing. It resides in the living room, ensuring privacy. Yesterday I played BF2042 for a few hours, took a break, and returned only to discover the game would crash to desktop unexpectedly. It often freezes before that happens, sometimes displaying an error message about a DirectX function failing. The issue appears only with BF2042, not other games. I attempted to remove Norton, adjusted firewall settings, updated drivers, downgraded them, and even performed a full system reinstall, but the problem persists. The crash happens within minutes of launching, and I can't afford another $400 GPU right now. As a single parent, this PC is crucial for my son; he's at his mom's house today and I'll pick him up tonight. I'm really anxious about letting him know it won't work. Unfortunately, I'm currently at work and can't provide advice until around 5:30 PM EST. Thank you...
Did you format the disk and do a fresh install? Or just some "repair" feature. If repair, try DDU first. You could do some GPU-intensive benchmark, to see if that crashes the card. And watch for the temps. Watch the fans, see if they are spinning. (maybe some cable is blocking fans, weird things happen) Considering this is a fresh build, the card should still be under warranty, IF that is the problem. No need to buy a new one, although there would be some downtime for the PC.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte B650M. You installed all the drivers, but the issue still exists. The term "sfc/scannow" is a tool used to check and fix system files. It’s not something most users need to know unless you’re dealing with serious problems.
Hey there! I think the card might be involved. But it could also be due to a corrupted Windows setup, a faulty motherboard or CPU/ram issue—try reinstalling drivers first. If you have an extra drive, test it on the same system without activation to check if the problem continues. BD is performing well under stress tests. If none of these steps help, we can explore other possibilities together.
Sfc is a built-in tool that checks Windows files for issues and resolves them automatically. It’s part of Windows, not a separate program.
It seems like you didn't format the hard drive, just started from the USB and completed an installation. I'm guessing the previous setup wasn't fully removed. Sorry, I'm a novice trying to understand this. The fans are running, and I inspected all connections inside and outside the computer. I plan to reach out to the manufacturer today, but they need detailed info from the card, so I'll have to wait until after work.
