I recently updated my Windows 8.1, but now I'm disappointed. My SSD holds both the operating system and some games—about 10GB of space. Now I have only 4GB left... Microsoft, why is this the case? Is there a solution or fix for this? Edit: I've tried turning off Hibernation mode, which the latest update supposed to reactivate, but it didn't help. Also, I ran CMD in administrator mode.

The latest change is just security patches. Nothing else is available.

It was only a single large 900MB update for my Windows 8.1. After it was uncompressed, it expanded to about 6GB. There were also other updates installed before the final one.

It hasn't installed Windows 10 behind the scenes. Typically, a concealed directory at the root of the C drive is involved.

Windows sometimes retains a backup of your system settings to handle potential issues after an update that might affect hardware or software compatibility. This is common when upgrading to a major version. You can usually remove it easily. EightForums.com offers a helpful tutorial on using Disk Cleanup; take a look. (The advice comes from personal experience and isn’t officially supported.) Click START, then RUN, or press WIN+R to access the Run dialog. Enter "cleanmgr" and press ENTER. If you have several drive letters, select the one with Windows installed. The scan might take some time, so choose the appropriate drive. Look for an option labeled "Cleanup Old Windows Installation Files" and confirm it. If you don’t have admin privileges or UAC is off, click "Cleanup System Files." Remember, after this process, you can’t revert changes. Proceed with caution.

Tried Windows 10 with 6GB? I'm not sure if it's sufficient for that amount. Sounds a bit uncertain. Mhm. It might be a bit risky. Will reselling it from the Resycle bin work without issues? Also, any potential downsides if I go ahead and delete it completely? Oh, sorry—I meant to clarify what I was asking. Also, anyone know the size of Windows 8.1 when it's just installed? Edit: Specifically the Windows folder.

It seems around 4GB is the size, with the remaining 2GB likely for temporary files. Consider using CCleaner to check which temp files are being created.

It's significantly larger than 4, around 12 to 15 gigabytes.

It's improbable I have Windows 10 installed. My connection speed isn't sufficient for downloading large files within an hour. Additionally, I've used CCleaner before, which may have taken up space.
