It seems you're questioning the value of investing in high-end components like the 4770K at such a price point. While it's impressive to have NVMe support, SATA still performs well in practical scenarios. The performance gain isn't substantial enough to justify a 9800X3D setup for budget builds. It feels unrealistic to expect long-term benefits from a single CPU unless you're focused solely on office tasks. Your concern about not spending too much upfront is valid—spreading investments over time often proves more economical. Prices tend to drop, and upgrades usually become more affordable, making incremental improvements more cost-effective.
Sorry, I'm not in a position to hold cash. I really appreciated being able to install an NVME SSD on a board that wasn't built for it. After ten years and spending under a thousand dollars, it still performs well for a much longer time than expected. Without the 4770k's capability to run at 4.3GHz, I might have upgraded five years ago and again five years later.
We avoid long-term budgeting. Design for what you imagine might come up, and go all out. I don’t need an NPU right now, and why would I invest today in something I won’t use for another seven years? It’ll cost less now than it does when it’s just starting out. Don’t buy a car with features you might need later—like having a partner and kids down the line. Stop clinging to fixed plans and being rigid about what others expect. If you can’t adapt quickly, it doesn’t mean everyone is like that. Life changes, so flow with it. Or face the annoyance of realizing something you didn’t realize existed years ago when you started building.
I'm playing cyberpunk on a 2080 ti with no CPU bottleneck. It's surprising how slow processor tech has been over the last decade. The 4770k was about 40% quicker than the 3770k, and after that, Intel chips kept improving by 10-20% each generation for a decade. I had to delay my build because my bank accounts were frozen, but I think I found what I need. https://www.asus.com/motherboards-compon...-plus-wifi seems to fit the bill, though some people warn about ASUS customer service.
It seems we might see NPUs using PCIe X4 soon, but no one is planning ahead yet. Just stick with what’s available now and hope it lasts until next year?
