Adjusting the settings shifts much of the workload to your CPU, which likely explains the high GPU usage. In Overwatch, the "reduce buffering" option cuts down on pre-rendered frames, making the game run smoother and improving FPS.

maybe i'll try reducing buffering and see how it affects things. but even with the highest settings I still notice about 40% gpu usage. it doesn't make sense since latency is lower at maximum graphics than at low settings—this is confusing. 20ms at max, 40 at high, and 80 at low.

You have limited options if you aim for high refresh rates, since most cards under 1070 cannot sustain 144 FPS at 1080p in the near future.

I haven't checked the latency myself, but from what I understand, once I powered it up the game felt much smoother and my aim improved significantly, especially for quick shots. I was okay with Soldier before, but he's not a one-shot game.
