My current setup:
Windows 10
ASRock AB350 Pro 4
AMD Ryzen 5 1400
XPG 16gb 3000mhz DDR4 RAM (2x 8gb modules)
Nvidia EVGA GeForce GTX 1060
6GB

I recently bought a 43-inch 4K 144Hz HDR 10 display (Samsung Odyssey Neo Mini QLED).
Since I plan to play at 2160p resolution, should I completely skip the CPU upgrade and just focus on getting a top-tier GPU?
I’ve heard that at 4K the CPU becomes less important as long as it’s sufficient, especially for 1080p.
But I’m open to upgrading if necessary.
If I do upgrade the CPU, my limit would be something like a Ryzen 5 3600 or even higher (2600x, 4500/4100 if possible).
I’m not keen on Ray Tracing either.

My goal is to achieve 2160p resolution. If I can keep my monitor at 120-144Hz, it would be great, though it’s not essential—I’m already comfortable at 4K 60fps with Nvidia G-Sync built in.
Budget-wise for the CPU: $130.
For the GPU, it really depends on whether I need to invest in it or stick with what I have.
I could get a Ryzen 4100 for $60, a 4500 for $80, a Ryzen 3600 for $90, and a 2600x for $80.
GPU-wise, I’m unsure what to choose.
I’m not sure which model is best and I’m feeling confused.

I believe a 4070 would realistically fit a 1440 card. For 4K gaming, I’d likely need something like a 7900xtx and a 5700x. Better is always better. If you’re open to buying used, the 5700x might be available for about $160 on eBay.

Older GPUs such as the Vega cards, RX 5000 series, and RTX 2080 are considered outdated for 4K.

For a 4070 or 4070ti, there isn’t enough VRAM to handle 4K effectively. Probably you’d need an RTX 3090 instead.

I've received information from numerous sources indicating that 2080, 2080ti, and 2080 Super—or even 2070 Super—are sufficient for 4K, and that 4070 offers even more capacity.

Also why the recommendation is for 5700x? If I use 2160p, the CPU would be excessive. For 1080p at high refresh rates, it makes sense, but for 4K at 60Hz, a 3600 is already too much.

I'm confident with a top-tier GPU, my Ryzen 5 1400 could handle 2160p at 60hz on a good G-Sync display. For 1080p and 1440p, it would only make sense to push beyond a 2600Hz if needed.

If you are serious about 4k, I would suggest he 4090 or 7900XTX.
Even the 4070TI is a 1400P card in my mind.
I don't see a huge rush to go to 4k gaming personally. Added costs. What are you really getting for all that money?
