I'm about to install the Ryzen 5 2600x to upgrade and "future proof" my setup, even though the current quad-core CPU has never caused any problems.
I understand the CPU is mainly responsible for higher frames, while the GPU handles higher resolution, so I'm hoping to be able to use a high-end GPU in the future to run 4K.
Maybe I'll buy a Titan X for that. I'm sure it would work. It's hard to imagine it wouldn't. I think people aren't realizing there are many cards capable of 4K performance anymore. We're heading towards 2024, and I've known folks playing in 4K since 2016—seriously, guys!

I would have suggested the 5800X3D, but based on your comment, it seems beyond your budget. However, I believe the 4500 offers a solid balance for gaming at 60fps.
The GPU Hierarchy chart provided is a useful guide. For long-term use, the 7800XT is a minimum recommendation if you plan to run your GPU for over a year.
I believe the main factor is how long you wish to retain the components. For 4k high refresh gaming, there really isn't much room but you have to invest significantly in the GPU (4080/4090/3090 or 7900XT/7900XTX/7800XT/6900XT/6950XT would be my baseline needs) unless you intend to lower graphics settings to their absolute minimums on newer titles (though this won't work for all games). This doesn't mean Alan Wake 2 predicts everything, but it won't run well on anything older than RTX20xx/GTX16xx or RX6xxx, so I wouldn't recommend those at all.
On the CPU side, a 4500 would be better, though it has constraints in IPC, PCIe and IO compared to Zen 3 based chips. The best choice would be aiming for a 5600 minimum.

It depends on the game you're playing. Modern AAA titles? Definitely not. A 2080 isn't sufficient for 4K at high settings in current FPS games. I'm not satisfied with the 7900 XTX's performance at 4K across the board either. It usually works, but not consistently. In my opinion, the 4090 is the only suitable "real 4K" card. Even if it couldn't handle Cyberpunk and Alan Wake 2 at full 4K settings as I'd prefer, I wouldn't want to waste that kind of money.
Additionally, I can't suggest anything lower than the 5800X3D for a 4K experience. Newer games are becoming much more demanding on the CPU, and it would be sad to spend a lot on a GPU upgrade only to have to reduce everything because you "saved" on the CPU.
No, perhaps when those cards were released, but not anymore. Particularly with the current state of unoptimized PC games we face now. You should have at least 16GB of VRAM to play smoothly in 4K. 8GB is just enough for 1080p, let alone 4K. A full platform upgrade would be necessary. I’d consider a Ryzen 7 7800x3d and an RX 7900x, but that depends on your budget.
