I need to raise the clock speed of my i5 8250u from 3.4 to 2.2ghz despite the heat, since I can turn off turbo boost and it still feels too hot. I want enough performance when needed but think 2.2ghz is enough. I have an Intel XTU chipset and don’t know how to adjust settings beyond undervolting. (Note: I lowered the boost frequency because thermal throttling causes gaming stutters, and now it runs smoothly.) Thanks.

Let it manage its own function? It will maintain the desired temperature independently.

It indicates the boost remains above the default level, suggesting insufficient heat to trigger throttling, and therefore not reaching temperatures that could harm the chip.

I'm trying to prevent thermal throttling since it's making my games lag a lot. After turning off turbo boost, the game runs more smoothly because the CPU isn't generating as much heat. However, I still need that extra boost for other tasks, so I'm wondering if it's possible to limit the maximum turbo boost.

Yes, you can restrict the maximum turbo frequency once your laptop is cleaned.

You might prefer to pause your laptop only when necessary because you can resolve the issue yourself instead of slowing it down.

The majority of laptop chips don't support tuning, suggesting this isn't the case.
