Addressing shadow pop-ins and draw distance challenges across all 3D games
Hello everyone! Welcome to this chat. I've faced challenges with shadow distance issues and LOD pop-ups in several recent games—Final Fantasy XVI, Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Elden Ring. After switching my GPU from a 4070 Super to a 7800XT and even building a new system, the problem keeps happening. It seems like shadows vanish suddenly when you're too close, which is frustrating.
This issue has been discussed in many forums over time, but no clear solution has emerged. I've shared some examples here (especially for Final Fantasy XVI), though I won't show any video clips. My setup includes a specific PC configuration: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, RTX 4070 Super, and other components.
I'll go through what I've tried so far—besides changing hardware—to help you understand the situation better. If you have more details or want to see how others are handling it, feel free to share! My goal is to find a way to resolve this so I can continue enjoying these games without interruptions.
Hello, I'm not sure about a solution since I've already checked it out. It might be related to power issues. I've also seen it running games on my PS5, but I've gotten used to it now.
Hey, thanks for replying! As mentioned in my post I have tested both the old and new PC plugged into a PSU and in the same outlet that my friend's PC is getting its power from (he has no problems).
It seems these settings are set up as intended out of the box. You may have the option to adjust them via the control panel or profile inspector.
I understand, this keeps appearing. On first look it seems like default or poor settings with bad artifacts in the YT stream. What I’m saying is I can adjust my games to look this way for most of them, but why would I do that? I prefer clear visuals, DLSS disabled, RTX off, and high/maximum textures. I know this isn’t very helpful, but you need me to be more specific about the problem. Ideally, with better videos—preferably higher quality ones—I could explain exactly what’s happening in each case. Maybe a full uncompressed stream would work better than YT. This forum does that too, though it only allows 20MB at most. Still, in the car video, a huge amount is popping up… what’s going on? Either the distance settings are wrong or these games are just not optimized or tested properly. Probably Microsoft, Ubisoft, or EA—lmao. Yeah, I’m here.
Hello friend, I'm facing the same issue with my RTX 3060 Ti setup. I've been using the 1TB WD BLACK 770 NVMe SSD and the 850 NVMe SSD for gaming. After trying various settings, formats, and updates, I think the problem lies with the NVMe drives themselves. If you have a chance to try an SATA 2.5 SSD, let me know so I can get updated information.
