In short, you're trying to play Runescape on a virtualized Ubuntu environment using a new client. The main problem seems to be that after an update, the game stopped working properly and now you're stuck. You've checked the 3D acceleration settings and disabled them, but the issue persists. It might help to ensure the guest mode is correctly configured and that your host system supports the necessary drivers.

I'm not sure which client you're referring to. Could you provide more details?

I ensure the official Runescape client remains unaltered. Running it in a sandbox offers extra security. Sandboxie employs isolation methods to keep programs separate from your main system, safeguarding your data and applications from unintended modifications.

It seems the app becomes unresponsive when loading resources, with no available solution. Updating drivers or clearing related files on all drives doesn’t resolve the problem. This issue started after a recent update and has affected others too. I’m considering using a VM so I can play without relying on the Java version. The only known fix is reinstalling the operating system.

I don't care about the program's safety.

It’s possible to test WINE, which lets Windows executables run on Linux.

Choose either Wine for your Linux configuration or Sandboxie, a tool that lets you fully install the application in a tightly controlled setting and remove it anytime you wish.

Which GPU model are you employing? What amount of graphics RAM is allocated to your virtual machine? Have you updated the VM's software to its most recent version?
