Several players are frustrated about the claimed 30 frames per second limit mentioned for The Evil Within. Bethesda also suggested high-end requirements such as 4GB of VRAM to achieve 1080p performance. Players are exploring methods to bypass the FPS cap, adjust aspect ratios, or toggle specific GOD mode settings. The game is set to release tonight at midnight, but it launched earlier. I adjusted the settings and found an issue: setting the resolution to 1440p caused the image to stretch unevenly, cutting parts of the screen. I tried running it at 1440p using a supported but non-native resolution, which led me to discover the FPS limitation and related restrictions. In short, the game is limited to 30 FPS, and achieving higher performance requires workarounds.
It works well at 60fps with 1080p, FXAA enabled, and most settings optimized on my 780. 1440p remains problematic. I’m unsure about the aspect ratio (also unlockable) and black bars—I’d probably prefer a wider screen. The textures look quite low resolution, though.
My friend's 780 Ti struggles to keep up with 30fps at 3440x1440, and I'm not faring much better with two 280x displays. I hope the team at flawless widescreen fixes delivers a stable game, but right now I'm stuck with just a tiny 1920x803 window amidst a lot of black.
Ya. Actually after playing for over an hour, it seems like a crappy port. Damn...
I don't think I'm experiencing that low, I'll check the GeForce FPS counter soon.
My Nvidia driver, 344.11, already states that it provides "the best gaming experience for [among others] The Evil Within." Nvidia can only fix performance if the issue is on their end. Games ported this poorly often cannot be helped by drivers. From the sounds of it, this game is broken by design, not by drivers. I'm not addressing anyone in particular here, but they announced that they were defaulting to this absurd 30 FPS cap and 2.35:1 aspect ratio on PC ages ago, after they made those bizarre statements about its recommended/required specs. There was every red flag that this PC port was going to be questionable at best. This is a textbook example of why not to buy before reviewers have had a look.
