At this point, Arch Linux without systemd starts up quickly—around half a minute. Is this the setup you're considering?

HDD probably—it could be a Cretaceous potato! Changing to an SSD would make it four times quicker.

It's a potato—what kind of processor does it have? Should it use an SSD or HDD for the boot drive? I remember my old potato PC was quite sluggish, just like yours.
