I've spent around 50 hours on DotA, and I'm curious about how it stacks up against League of Legends.

I've tried both quite a bit, but I have way more time in LoL. The communities aren't great in either. LoL is much better balanced, though it's less wild because of it. I enjoy runes and masteries, which adds more depth. I believe LoL currently offers more heroes/champions. Personally, I prefer LoL more. Both games are solid overall.

They both deliver similar intensity under those conditions, creating a chaotic battlefield where spells and attacks overwhelm you, making it hard to track your character's position.

It seems the game should be a bit more challenging, especially since it's tougher for one hero alone. You get used to managing your character over time. Also, Dota 2 offers a more engaging spectator mode.

I favor LoL, though it's just a taste—it uses more space than Dota 2. I think LoL is roughly 30GB, while Dota 2 sits around 9GB. In my opinion, they're pretty similar games, just with different visuals, sounds, and attacks. Edit: I just realized Dota 2 includes a third-person perspective, which I like.

I’m not interested in jumping into a heated debate about LoL versus Dota, since we both know it’s going to end that way. However, I don’t fully agree with your perspective. I’ve played both games extensively—around 1000 matches in the league and just over 700 in Dota. From my side, Dota seems more balanced; every hero has a counter, and one of the issues with LoL was how quickly new champions could become dominant after their release, often disrupting the game in unexpected ways. I haven’t played much lately, so changes might have occurred.

I’d be cautious about labeling the Dota community as 'good,' but I believe it has strengths in areas like player retention and team management. This isn’t necessarily a fanboy argument—I think Dota offers a different kind of intensity. In Dota, dying and being fed really matters, whereas in LoL, no team is ever truly off the field. That’s just my take.

This better reflects what you intended about balance. Dota does have some issues that feel broken or confusing. I agree with your perspective.

Another issue I face with Dota is that the game relies more on player skill than in the league. It often depends on hero counters (though not always).
