You're considering using a stock cooler as a fan+heatsink without activating it. That should work since the heatsink will still dissipate some heat.

I successfully operated the 3600XT at 4400MHz static on my Le Grand Macho RT without a fan. The system ran smoothly with Linpack. Running at 4500MHz static would have been possible, though it would have started loading at 90% while Linpack was active.

Some of it, but it’ll mostly just stay warm. It shouldn’t be that serious. You might skip the fan completely. The optimal choice would be a budget cooler like the Gammax AG400 from Deepcool and leave the fan off.

The system manages heat distribution to lower temperatures, but the GPU will continue overheating unless you provide a minimum of 35 watts for cooling.
