I need to confirm the setup details first. My PC is running Battlefield, Forza 6 Apex, Alien Isolation, and several other titles at maximum settings. I have a Dell U3415W with a Core i5 6600K (noctua air cooled), 16GB DDR4 RAM, an 850 EVO SSD, and the EVGA 980 Ti reference. I recently downloaded the new DOOM game; it runs smoothly at 60 FPS until a section with heavy volumetric effects causes a brief dip to 30 FPS before recovering. After checking, my GPU temperature is around 83°C, which seems to be the throttling limit. I’ve reinstalled the latest Nvidia drivers for DOOM, even after uninstalling and reinstalling all others, but no improvement. I tried switching other settings to high instead of ultra, but it didn’t help. It’s frustrating because people claim their games run perfectly, but I’m wondering if my hardware or driver issues are causing this problem. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

If it´s reaching the throttling point, I don´t see the issue. Got to a point where the card ran to hot, throttled down liked its supposed to.

I see your point, but most people aren’t complaining. Your machine seems to be handling the load better than others.

Consider using airflow and possibly reapplying thermal paste. If you're running a ref. 980ti, that could also be the issue.

980Ti tends to overheat easily. Consider adjusting the fan settings, increasing airflow around the GPU, or buying a better cooling system.

Typical concerns: Are there any updated or stable drivers available? What about temperatures? Is the GPU getting dusty? Could fan damage be causing issues? In my experience, it’s often the drivers that are the issue, but it would be wise to look into others as well. The main reason this problem keeps happening with the same game is likely related to the drivers.

It has to be drivers, PC was built in December, its been cleaned since then. Reinstalled the drivers set for this game, runs other games at max settings rarely having issues. I do have a phanteks evolv atx mid tower which isnt the best air flow cast but all the case fans are noctuas and this PC is a premium rig. Just really bummed out right now at the moment.

Turn off automatic updates for apps or switch your antivirus to gaming mode. Disable unnecessary programs while playing, run malware scans, or shut down anything not needed. It might feel like the reports won’t be as reliable when people wake up—wait for drivers to improve or wait for game patches. Early adopter challenges often arise this way.
