I’ve tried everything to fix my PC problems, but it’s been frustrating. My Windows 7 key doesn’t work on Windows 8.1, and I’m worried about the cost before Windows 10 releases. I still have proof of purchase for Win 7 Pro, so paying more than $100 for a short period feels unfair. Do you have any suggestions?

*pauses, sniffles* Ah, a cold, eh? But you're asking if I can get a Windows 7 disk from someone and install it using my key?

I’m constrained by bandwidth limits, so another installation isn’t possible. I already have a Win 7 Pro USB to use. I also checked for pirated versions, but the keys aren’t working.

Discovered my dad’s Win 8.1 product key was purchased for my grandma’s use but never activated. Now I need to lower the version from Pro to Core without a full reinstall.

Downgrading isn't an option; the main version is already poor quality. From a legal standpoint, you're limited to just paying for a new key. You might be able to locate some OEM keys for less than thirty dollars if you do a little searching.

Honestly, I don’t mind the legal side; what matters is getting it for a short time. If I can locate a pirate key, that should work until I have the chance to reinstall Windows 7 Pro and upgrade to Windows 10 later.
