Yes, 10 can identify 8 since they share the same boot loader. Just a note, when you start it, it might seem like it’s only going to load 10. Don’t worry, before the login screen appears, you’ll get a choice to switch to 8. Selecting 8 will restart and load again into 8, not 10. It’s a bit unusual now, but it functions correctly.

I use Mint on Windows 8.1. Now I run Windows 10 in a VM. It makes sense to skip dual booting. Just stick to a virtual machine.

In a virtual machine, you generally don’t get to use your GPU as effectively as you would on a physical system.

It's really cool who came up with virtual machines. I really enjoy using various Linux distributions and Windows 10 for testing purposes.

Yes, it should function. I have a dual-boot setup on my laptop. But since it's UEFI-based and uses GPT instead of an MBR, there might be some concerns.

You're correct. Running the Windows 10 preview isn't necessary since it remains unstable in many areas. Booting from the full version wouldn't make sense given its issues.
