6600k Safe Overclock?
6600k Safe Overclock?
I have a 6600k cooled by a Cryorig H7 on an Asus Z170 AR.
I'm achieving a stable 4.7 Ghz when I set the vcore to 1.375, but Hardware Monitor shows the vcore as 1.392 (my BIOS vcore is adaptive with "+").
I ran x264 (from overclock.net) overnight:
At idle it's in the mid 35 range, at load it's mid to high 70s, reaching a peak of 82.
Is this a safe daily overclock?
If your core temperatures are between 70-80, it's acceptable.
The adaptive voltage suggests your BIOS might configure higher settings than you intended.
That's why we manually adjust the value during benchmarking and stress tests, aiming for a stable overclock. Since gaming or other tasks demand significantly less power than benchmarks, this approach works well.

The adaptive voltage indicates your MB might be configured higher than your settings.

After establishing a stable manual vcore, you should change it to adaptive instead of plus.
I have no idea what are those + - options. I'm familiar with "adaptive".
Since you already gave the overclock and your temperatures are fine, just leave it as is for now
I took the safer path and simply lowered back to 4.6 Ghz with a vcore of 1.30.
Temperatures stay below 70, so the jump from 4.7 Ghz at 1.39 seems reasonable for an initial overclock.
