50 euro price for a Ryzen 3 1200AF?
The 1200AF supports second-generation compatibility, meaning it should function with older BIOS versions. However, a B450 motherboard would work, while a B350 or X370 might not if the BIOS is outdated.
I was checking the more affordable options. I’m considering a A250 board. Since I’m just starting out and don’t really need overclocking, I think a bare 1080 setup would be fine. Core Boost might work on a non-overclockable board, but it’s best to confirm compatibility before buying. You might only need a BIOS update at the most.
It's just launched and it weighs around 3200g without the APU. It's also half the price compared to the original, which is really cool.
A320 boards aren't ideal for high-performance gaming systems due to insufficient power delivery and restricted upgrade options. Even without overclocking, a 6-core processor will face challenges under full load. You can check the packaging for compatibility indicators such as "Ryzen 2000 series ready" or "Ryzen 3000 series ready," or it may lack these labels entirely.
They say it should work with the system. B450 specs? It feels like a much higher cost. Is that really an issue for the A320?
B450 now supports the latest Ryzen 4th generation processors. A320, B350 and X370 models are limited to the third generation. In an optimal setup, the top CPU for a typical A320 motherboard would be a Ryzen 3 3300X or Ryzen 5 3500X, though these lack SMT support. Performance gains are modest, and while single-threaded games run fine, modern titles with multiple cores may not benefit much.
