Cache exists... certain titles require additional cache, but no amount of adjustment will increase the 64MB L3 cache on the 5900X.
Freeagent, I'm considering upgrading to an X3D. With my 7900XT and a 4K setting, do you know if there are titles that perform better at 5900x? Also, how do those occasional 1% low frames look in practice?
I switch back and forth often; my favorite is the 5900X. Regarding 1% lows, I’m not sure—I usually shoot at 60fps. Maybe that’s why I like the 5900X, since I don’t require 300fps.
It's possible to run most games smoothly at 60 frames per second using an older CPU. This doesn't alter the reality that the 5800X3D offers superior performance for gaming tasks.
