3800x OC Questions
3800x OC Questions
I’m considering CPU-Z might be a bit chaotic. I saw someone tweaking the 3900X in Ryzen Master, and their core speed readings changed wildly. When they ran Cinebench, it stuck at their preset clock. I had to reinstall Ryzen Master because it’s been acting up, but now my peak speeds are between 1100mhz and 1300mhz (CPU-Z is still inconsistent). When I tested Cinebench R20, both Ryzen Master and CPU-Z showed a steady 4.2Ghz. NOTE: My motherboard is an x570 Asus TUF Gaming.
4.2ghz on cinebench r20 works with either multi-core or single-core CPUs. Your CPU speed can naturally vary. If you don’t notice a drop below 2ghz when idle and only the CPU-Z utility is running, there might be an issue. Opening a browser or a few apps can sometimes cause your GPU to ramp up, which is typical. I own a 3700x and it behaves similarly.
I had several settings active while running at 1.3ghz. It seems everything is fine, though CPU-Z was showing wrong clock speeds, while Ryzen Master gave accurate readings. I haven’t used Ryzen Master before and haven’t made any changes since my FX-8320 days. Do you usually install Ryzen Master? Watching a video now makes it look much easier.
I favor bios over software. Some users struggle with software. Certain BIOS features like LLC are missing in Ryzen Master. Use Ryzen Master to check your CPU capabilities. After identifying the best setting, return to BIOS and adjust the OC values from Ryzen Master. HWInfo64 is suggested for hardware tracking. Log your current voltage and temperature readings.
This happens because lowering the voltage can affect performance and longevity, even if it seems safe at first. The numbers you mentioned suggest trying a lower voltage than the recommended max, which might impact stability or efficiency. It’s important to balance safety with real-world results rather than just following specs blindly.
AMD didn't specify the safe voltage limit for overclocking, so we estimated 1.325V as the upper bound and trusted it for temperature management. At the base configuration, Ryzen can reach up to 1.5V briefly to boost the CPU to its advertised turbo speed.
