30-series bottlenecking issues with 8700k/8086k
A little off topic, but this is something I've always wanted to know but never really understood. Like if we take the 8086k and the 10900k for example, the differences would be 10c/20t (10900k) [goddamn] 6c/12t (8086k), turbo 5.0GHz (8086k) and turbo 5.20-5.30GHz (10900k) and power limits as @Shimejii laid out. Now me not knowing enough about what affects the real world performance you would get out of these chips for gaming at least, would lead me to believe that the 10900k would blow the 8086k out of the water. Now @Shimejii said that for the most part if you were to set both chips at 5GHz you wouldn't see any difference in most games. So does this mean (for the most part in games) increasing c/t count (up to a point) and keeping the clock the same would effectively have no performance increase? So you should be looking at clock vs c/t count as long as the c/t count meets a certain threshold? As well, is this just because of the way games are coded currently?
The upcoming systems won’t reach 4k 120. They’ll manage at most 4k 60 due to their power and thermal constraints.
