I also heard 1.5v is the safest voltage level, but I’m not sure I’ll overclock right away. This is my first build, so I want to assess its full capabilities before making any changes. Probably better to start below 1.5v and adjust later if needed.
It doesn’t make much sense to use a memory kit designed for 2133MHz when it’s actually rated for 3800MHz. You could adjust the voltage or tweak the timing, but I don’t think it’s worth the effort.
It isn't required to operate at that level. The design simply indicates a setting that may not be necessary, and it could function effectively at lower voltages. Determine the minimum voltage it can handle.
The kit you purchased is of good quality. If you're not sure about 1.5V, it should work well at 1.4-1.45V with timing settings such as 15-16-16-36 or 16-16-16-36. Any RAM with an XMP profile is essentially overclocked. You invested a lot in your RAM for someone aiming to meet the JEDEC standards.
Technically it's labeled as "OC," yet these RAMs have been verified by the maker to function properly under those conditions. That’s why they’re highlighted and stored in the X.M.P. profile... There’s also some flexibility in headroom. You might find success with reduced voltage or a slightly lower frequency on a medium-lower voltage setup. That’s something you’ll need to experiment with yourself. 1.5V is perfectly acceptable for such high-speed RAM. It’s possible that the mix of "specific CPU, chipset, and BIOS version" could affect performance with certain RAMs, but this small risk isn’t related to the "AMD optimized" label on the box... If you prefer a lower setting, do so, but there’s no necessity—just your choice.
i9-10900K supports officially up to DDR4-2933. Exceeding this mark is treated as an overclock of the CPU's Integrated Memory Controller. You can always lower the RAM overclock and operate at slower speeds such as DDR4-2666, 2933, 3000, or 3200 with adjusted timings and voltages. Still, even DDR4-3000 or DDR4-3200 is regarded as overclocking.
