In almost every case I recommend the 3600+b450. For 8 cores, opt for a 3700x. To achieve top frame rates, choose a 10600k. The 3600 offers the optimal mix of cost and performance—most GPUs in most games won’t notice much difference from an Intel processor.
Avoid Zen 2 if you're purchasing an ampere; better wait for Zen 3. At least aim for a 10600k at 5GHz with some Cl16 4000 RAM. The B460 has an overclocked RAM issue. If you're using Intel, focus on maximizing single-core performance. The CPU will likely be a bottleneck. Recently I played Detroit and my CPU reached 100% while a scene ran at 60fps—wow, the game isn't even next-gen.
The issue goes beyond typical fixes. I’ve thoroughly checked, including tracking voltages and timing graphs over many years. Why is the 3600 better? Do you have the X version?
Would you consider boosting the 10600K? The chip specs show around 4.5 boost per core at full stock and about 4.9 at all cores, which isn’t a huge advantage for overclocking. The 10700 offers roughly a 4.5g boost all at once, so it might be worth upgrading if you don’t plan to push the CPU further.
Considering a 3600 now seems reasonable after reviewing more balanced frame times. B450 boards appear to be a solid option.
