100 FPS in CS with RTX 2070 and Ryzen 5 1600
Hey guys, I just upgraded my GPU from GTX 1050 to RTX 2070, but performance hasn't improved much. I checked with RivaTuner for any bottlenecks and didn’t find anything. My CPU usage in the game is around 20%, and the GPU usage is similar, with temperatures staying between 40°C and 60°C. I have a clean Windows setup, just using Steam, Vibrance GUI, and NVIDIA drivers while playing. I was running at the lowest settings (1280x1024) for a game like FFA with about 20 players online, and I managed around 100-150 FPS. What could be causing the drop in performance?
Your GPU architecture has been updated, so it's strongly recommended to perform a DDU in safe mode to reinstall the drivers. Additionally, since your CPU is a Ryzen 5 1600, lowering the graphical settings and resolution will likely have no impact because you're primarily CPU-limited and your GPU isn't contributing much.
It's typical for the CPU usage to stay consistent regardless of the number of cores. The GPU usually provides better performance in terms of FPS.
when using my 980 Ti with an R5 1600, I had to increase Unigine Valley to 1440p to fully utilize the card, the same happened with my Vega FE and R7 2700X; at 1080p they only reached about 60%, especially in games that are much more demanding than CS:GO.
Well, do you think it's worth trying to adjust your settings if it could improve your FPS? After all, I'm a competitive player who's been using this version for about two years, and changing it might disrupt my muscle memory, which I don't want. Are there other alternatives?
CS:GO mainly focuses on single-core performance, and it seems to use no more than three cores with multicore rendering turned on (make sure it's enabled, as this greatly impacts results).
For Ryzen, I suggest boosting your 1600 and then exploring a tool like ProcessLasso. A user on Reddit found higher FPS by adjusting that setting, though I'm not familiar with the details.
I set up ProcessLasso and followed all the instructions, yet my performance remains unchanged.
