Zen 4 causes USB dropouts while using VR.
Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure this out because it’s getting pretty frustrating. I set up my new setup in December and just started testing VR recently. The main problem is that my USB devices stop working after about 20 minutes of playtime. When they drop out, CPU usage spikes sharply—from around 12% to over 30% for a brief moment—and the GPU stays heavily loaded. I have to restart the whole thing by holding the power button.
I didn’t realize this only happens during VR sessions. I tend to skip newer games since they don’t interest me much, but I did run some stress tests with Cinebench and 3DMark after building the rig. Both passed.
Here’s what I have:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7700X with AsRock Steel Legend X670E (BIOS 1.18)
- GSkill Flare X5 32GB (2x16, 6000MHz)
- EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO Ultra Gaming 6GB
- Elgato HD60Pro SK Hynix P41 2TB via Gen 5 slot
- Samsung 860 EVO storage drives
- Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
- SeaSonic Focus PX-850 with 80 Plus Platinum
- USB peripherals: Akko 5075, Logitech G502, Blue Snowball, StreamDeck, plus extra cables for controllers
Setup details: Oculus Rift (two 6ft HDMI + 10ft USB), three sensors (two with 10ft cables)
I’ve tried removing mods, updating drivers, reinstalling SteamVR, and even disabling iGPU. The issue only shows up when VR is active.
If anyone has any tips or fixes, I’d really appreciate it. I’m hoping someone else might have faced the same problem years ago.
I've received the replacement board, but it looks a bit dull. When it arrived, it came in a box meant for another board that was flipped inside out. It was wrapped in an anti-static bag and covered with the thinnest pink foam to shield the back, and the peels had already been removed. I didn’t even take mine off when I sent it back. As I was about to install the CPU, I noticed one pin wasn’t aligned properly, which makes me doubt putting it in. After two weeks, I wish I had better news...
