I’ll need to revisit this later since I’m about to attend a meeting. There was an interview on Anandtech about design aspects of Zen 2. One point mentioned is that AMD factored in aging characteristics—essentially, they operate near their limits, so as the CPU ages it requires higher voltage for the same clock speed and will adapt accordingly. If overclocking is possible, it might speed up this effect.
