Buildzoid shared a recent YouTube update about his chip performance dropping below expected speeds. A quick search revealed users on Reddit reporting clock issues around 1.3x speed within a month, with some experiencing drops below 1.3x by the third month. It seems the original undervolting techniques are still effective.
The safe voltage is typically around 1.25 volts. It’s usually enough to push the device hard, but after about two years it starts to wear out. Using it below 1.3 volts for less than three months is quite extreme and far below typical expectations.
The comment referencing the issue is above 1.25V, specifically mentioning 1.34 as an example that exceeds the current standard upper limit of 1.325V.
somewhere in there someone managed 1.275 and it kept breaking down after three months, so I’m just assuming 1.25. By this point, we might be questioning whether PBO is safe. AMD likely didn’t run it for that long. I’m hoping Buildzoid or Tech Jesus will post a video about it soon, lol.
Before applying negative offset, I was observing around 1.35 volts across all cores using just PBO during stress tests. It seems the system was functioning normally. With negative offset, performance improved to about 1.272 volts, while lighter loads maintained a stable 1.35 volts.
This outcome is anticipated because low current loads allow for increased voltage without degradation.
