Z390 Aorus Pro experiences slow performance in BIOS settings.
I have a Gigabyte Aorus Pro with a 9900k, 32GB Corsair 3200 DDR4, RTX 3080 FE, and a Samsung 970 NVMe drive. When both the graphics card and NVMe are connected simultaneously, the BIOS becomes extremely slow and unresponsive, making it nearly impossible to use. Booting without the GPU and with the NVMe installed works perfectly. However, when trying to boot with both together, the machine takes a long time to start, and Windows struggles to recognize the keyboard and mouse during login. Once logged in, everything seems normal. I've tried swapping the GPU and updating the BIOS, but nothing helps except forcing a full BIOS setup again. It's frustrating because removing the NVMe and booting into BIOS reveals it works, but after rebooting, performance drops significantly. Anyone have any insights into what might be causing this issue? I'm feeling really confused and unsure of the next steps.
A minor adjustment made to this matter. After several hours of adjustments, taking out my GPU, NVME, and other components, the issue keeps returning after a few restarts when I reconnect the machine. It seems unrelated to the NVME and GPU combination.
The new CSM version doesn’t appear to affect the outcome. The only consistent method I can depend on is powering off the PC at the wall and then it starts up normally.
Fast startup in both OS and BIOS doesn’t appear to resolve the problem either. I’m currently following a support email thread with Gigabyte, where they’re having me test different hardware setups to track the situation. I’m confident the GPU/NVME conflict I initially suspected isn’t the root cause, since I can reproduce the issue with just one component connected. It would be easier to replace the board if I can locate a suitable Z390 model elsewhere. Also worth noting, I’ve run several benchmarks on CPU, GPU, and NVME in Windows—none are lagging, everything functions smoothly after boot.
I've made some changes to the setup. The board is now just the CPU with one RAM stick and the onboard GPU. I re-flashed the BIOS and took out the CMOS battery to reset everything. Tried Ctrl + Alt + F6 for a lower resolution, but it still runs slow in the BIOS and loading Smart Fan 5 causes the PC to freeze.
