Check if you already have a CPU. For gaming purposes, the best options on that socket are the 8700(k) or 9900(k). Other models aren’t worth it because they won’t run games smoothly without lag or will become outdated soon. Generally, avoid this socket—it only has two CPUs, both of which are overpriced.
The 9700k is available now, though mainly because the PS4 and Xbox One remain in use. The basic 4 and 6 core models often experience lag and instability across many games because developers haven't optimized them for lower threaded CPUs. Only the 8700 or 9900 are pure 8-core options, which are better. I wouldn’t purchase it and would consider a Ryzen alternative. What is your budget?
