I checked YouTube today and noticed something that has been on my mind since I started building my PC. Specifically about GTA V, the frame rates shown seem way too high compared to what I’m experiencing with the same GPU. I’m running GTA V at its maximum settings (1600 x 900, up to 3.5 GB VRAM), and my setup includes an AMD 8320 OC at 4400 MHz, 16 GB RAM, an EVGA 970 SSC OC at 1530 cores (usually around 1418) and a MSI 970 gaming motherboard with 3503 memory slots. Youtubers are reporting over 100 FPS, while I usually stay around 60 FPS, sometimes dropping to about 57 but rarely below that. I’m sure it’s just a minor difference for some people, but it always catches my attention when it falls under 60 and then recovers. *Should I rely on EVGA Overlay or GeForce for benchmarking?* Also, can my overclocked AMD processor maintain high performance in the low 40s while the cooler pulls air through the heatsink? I’ve checked temperatures using both HWMonitor and MSI Command Center, but there was a nearly 10°C difference during stress tests. Thanks for the help—this community has really supported me as I get more comfortable with PC building.
Consider using MSI Afterburner in the background during gameplay and then check GPU and CPU activity afterward. If the GPU stays high for most of the time while the CPU runs at full speed, the CPU might be limiting performance. Also, monitor RAM usage while playing, as GTA V has been known to cause memory issues before.
While enjoying GTA 5, the GPU ran at 95% and the CPU at 57%. I stumbled upon a YouTuber whose performance was similar. Regardless, I swapped my 970 for a cheaper 980. It's 1080p enough but still gives smooth 100fps in GTA.
