I began using Firefox as my primary web browser and it functions well for most tasks except YouTube. Videos play normally unless I switch to fullscreen, after which the video and browser freeze completely. The audio remains audible in the background, but the interface becomes unresponsive for about 20 seconds before resuming. This issue consistently occurs with every video watched in fullscreen, except on YouTube. I looked online and discovered that right-clicking a video and turning off hardware acceleration resolves the problem, though I must re-enable it each time to keep the browser stable. It seems there isn’t a straightforward permanent solution, but adjusting settings can help.

Check your Firefox and Flash Player versions based on your computer specifications. Right-click the YouTube video, choose settings, and uncheck hardware acceleration. Navigate to Global Settings and allow it to save data without specifying the computer, then retry the next step.

You can find Global Settings in the app menu or by searching for "Settings" within the browser interface.

If Firefox freezes often, try resetting it. For YouTube problems, look at the link provided for troubleshooting; http://lifehacker.com/preload-entire-you...1186454034

It could seem odd, but I think your issue likely stems from YouTube’s Flash player having a glitch. When you switch to full screen using the mouse, the problem appears. It’s not Flash itself, but the YouTube player’s bug. They haven’t fixed it and might have done so to encourage Chrome usage. This isn’t the first time Google has handled this situation.

I'll attempt this, though the problem tends to be quite finicky. It might take some time before I realize if it helps.

I'm experiencing the same problem on two of my computers. It seems like Firefox and Flash Player aren't working together anymore. This wasn't an issue a few versions ago.

Consider using Chrome, or test CyberFox or Palemoon to check performance in that environment. Palemoon works okay.
