Hello, I have a setup with an I3 10100, Z490 motherboard (from a friend), an RX 5500XT 8GB, a 650W gold PSU, and 16GB RAM. I'm using it for engineering tasks like MATLAB, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Premiere Pro, and gaming. I'm considering upgrading my CPU to improve performance. I own an Hyper 212 Black but am torn between the i5 11600K and the i5 10600K—about a 50 euro difference. Is the 11600K worth it? Or should I hold off until Alder Lake or next-gen Ryzen with DDR5 arrives?

If you go for the 11600k you will most likely require a bios update if it's not already done ... if you're not comfortable with that perspective then you should just forget the 11th gen and go with the 10th gen ... DDR5 at first will most likely be quite expensive so I'm not sure it's that good of an idea to wait for it specially if you don't want to pay the early adopter tax. Personally I would go for the i510600k or if you don't mind doing a bios update and waiting for the 11600k to be on sale well that would probably be the best thing to do ...

Will you push the clock speed? If not, also look into the 10700/F option.

I've made several BIOS updates recently and have a PC linked to a UPS for backup. My main interest is understanding its performance.

I plan to push the overclock, but the 10700 seems pricier than the 11600k, making it less appealing.

Yes, I also believe that launching a DDR5 setup during its initial phases might not be ideal. Still, seeking additional perspectives can be beneficial.
