In short, I own three computers: a daily driver, an editing rig, and a laptop. I needed to bring data from both systems onto my laptop and make some changes. I removed the data drives from both desktops and the C drive from the editing rig. I installed an NVME SSD in my laptop as a backup and formatted it. However, I realized I should have been more careful. When copying data from the two drives to the laptop via USB dock, I kept getting error messages saying the location wasn’t available or access was denied. The drives work fine when connected directly, but I can’t get into them in any way. I also tried putting the editing drive back in its original machine, but that caused the same problem. I’m stuck and don’t know how to recover my data.

If the drives use NTFS, adjusting the permissions might solve the issue. Unless they're encrypted, you're likely fine. Good luck!

You attempted to adjust the permissions, but you're uncertain if your actions were correct. Please double-check the steps or consult the relevant documentation for accuracy.
