I reside in Australia and my neighborhood is finally receiving a fibre link. Our current modem/router only supports ADSL, not VDSL or VDSL2, so an upgrade is necessary. I plan to share more details to ensure everything fits the situation. Presently we own a Netgear D3600. Our home has two floors, and we keep the main equipment downstairs since most devices are there. We have four laptops, five phones, one PC (connected wirelessly), one Xbox (wireless), and three set-top boxes (also wireless) linked to Wi-Fi. In practice we’d likely have 5–8 devices using Wi-Fi simultaneously. At the highest end, we might stream video for five people, play online multiplayer with one Xbox or PC, and possibly watch content together. Therefore, a modem-router setup capable of handling that load would be ideal. We haven’t explored cabling for PCs, Xboxes, or set-top boxes yet—this is still under consideration. For now we aim for a 100Mbps connection, with a 250Mbps option also appealing. I’m considering a separate modem and router instead of a bundled unit. Right now my PC uses the 802.11ax standard, while others use N or AC. This led me to think about an AX router, but I’m also thinking about keeping my PC wired for future flexibility. My budget is roughly $300–$350 AUD (about $205–$240 USD). I’d need a router with strong coverage. If I purchase the modem separately, the model I’m eyeing is the NETGEAR DM200 (VDSL/VDLS2 compatible) – details here: https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Modems-&-Routers/64538-DM200-100AUS. Please let me know if you require more information. Cheers.
