Hello everyone,
I’m setting up a new setup for my gaming PC. My main focus is on RPGs, wargames, and action-aventure titles such as Baldur's Gate, the Assassin's Creed series, Plague Tale, Hell Blade, and Total War games. I don’t really enjoy FPS titles, and when I do play them, it’s usually solo. I don’t play multiplayer games or compete in e-gaming.

I’m not after the absolute top-tier build; I just need something solid that will hold up for a while. I prefer a quiet and sleek look—no RGB is in my style. After researching online, I settled on this configuration:
AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
MSI B650 Tomahawk WIFI
be quiet! Dark Rock 5
Corsair Vengeance 32Go (2x16Go) DDR5 6000MHz
ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce 5070 Ti 16GB OC Edition
Samsung 990 EVO PLUS - 2 To
Be quiet! Power Zone 2 850 W / Platinum
Fractal Design Define 7 Compact

I’m quite happy with it so far, but I’m curious whether I should opt for the B850 motherboard version. I also like the compact design of the Define 7, though I’m concerned about its cooling performance. Overall, I’m eager to hear your thoughts or suggestions on this setup.

Here are some key points you mentioned. You’re looking for a budget-friendly setup with a front mesh panel to improve airflow. Modern components require higher power, so a case with ample airflow is essential. I opted for a compact design that doesn’t look too flashy but still delivers strong performance. I also chose the top-rated air cooler available and paired it with an efficient power supply that’s compact and quiet. The system should handle games like Baldur’s Gate, Total War, and other titles well. A solid-state drive with a 4TB capacity is recommended, along with a budget-friendly X870 motherboard supporting PCIe 5.0 and plenty of storage options. This configuration can be adjusted based on your budget.

Another question you have, where exactly are you? I’m guessing it’s the USA. If that’s the case, check if there’s a Microcenter nearby to benefit from combined offers. On the GPU, watch for the and rx 9070xt. Right now, looking at pcpartpicker suggests you’d be better off choosing the 5070ti. However, on Memorial Day I managed to purchase the card listed below from Microcenter for $699—more than $100 cheaper than the 5070ti and only slightly slower.

This represents my revised selection of components. A 1tb and 4TB drive exceed the budget according to PCpartpicker pricing. Regarding noise from the 5070 ti, custom fan curves and undervolting offer the best quiet performance. The quietest available stock card is the MSI Vanguard SOC 5070 ti, though it’s quite costly and difficult to source in the EU. Another strong option is any color variant of the Gigabyte Aorus master cards.

It's fair to say a 9070XT provides superior value. The steel legend is available for over 700€ in various European locations.

I base my decisions on what I can observe now. The most affordable versions I found were the 5070 ti at 835 and the 9070 XT at 800. I think unless the 9070 XT is at least 10% cheaper than the 5070 ti, it's worth considering the improved features of the Nvidia card. It's up to you in the end.

My main concern is temperature and silence. It’s not essential to purchase a more expensive card. Instead, use the money to get a well-designed case and high-quality fans.
I plan to choose the Cougar MX600/MX600 mini case, which provides comparable cooling performance to models like the Lianli L216 or Asus Proart 602. After that, I’ll invest in a strong fan and mount it on the back of the mini case, such as a phanteks t30.
There are many cases and fans available in China, but a better alternative to the MX600 is Aigo's 扶摇百里, which offers similar cooling and includes extra cable limiters in the back compartment. I’m not sure what its English name is.

Regardless of what you choose to build, employ an AIO to manage the processor temperature. I've been assembling PCs since the 386 era, and I can confirm that the top enhancement is using an AIO to reduce noise. It barely functions—actually, it performs best during startup until I switch to Windows!
