My previous Core i5 3570K with 32GB RAM built in 2014 is becoming outdated and slower for tasks like Excel and productivity software. I'm seeking a new build that will last at least five years and remain upgradeable.
I'm considering a Raptor Lake Core i5 13600K because it excels in productivity, though its LGA 1700 socket is nearing the end of its life and may soon be discontinued.
I'm uncertain whether to pursue an AMD option, as the AM5 socket will stay relevant for some time, or wait for upcoming processors like Zen5 AM5 or Arrow Lake LGA 1851 that are expected next year.

Uncertain about the importance of socket 1700 being discontinued... unless you're someone who frequently swaps CPUs while maintaining the same board. You don't appear to be that person, given your consistent setup over nine years.

Current AMD or 13600K models are all acceptable. If you need to build now, proceed. If you can wait a few weeks, you might secure a few 14th generation Intel chips as well, which also fit socket 1700.

If it's relevant, the 13600K was the most affordable I've seen at 285 on Newegg just a couple of days ago. It's unclear how long that price will remain.

You can obtain the 12700K for $240 and secure two P cores compared to the 13600k/12600k (the latter is also under $200). The 12700KF costs $215 when you have a GPU available. A Ryzen 5700X is also a solid deal at $170.

If you have additional funds, the i7 14700 is expected to be released soon. Consider a B760 DDR4 motherboard paired with an i7 14700 setup. This model includes more E cores than the 12700 or 13700 variants. For productivity purposes, I don't believe it will become outdated within 7 to 8 years at least.

It would be great if your I5-3570K received a modern enhancement.
A key aspect to consider is the passmark performance evaluation.
The I5-3570K features four processing threads, achieving a total passmark score of 4954 when all threads are active. The individual thread score stands at 2048.
This single-thread metric is crucial for daily usability and often determines performance in most applications.

Intel Core i5-3570K Benchmark
The i5-13600K offers 20 processing threads (12 high-performance and 8 lower-performance). The overall score reaches 38322.
The single-thread score is 4176.

Intel Core i5-13600K Benchmark
I3/i5/i7/i9 specifications no longer indicate exact core counts or hyperthreading levels—they now represent general capabilities.
Within a week, the 14th generation release is expected.
If it follows the usual path, Intel may offer a 10% boost in value for performance.

The top-tier I9-14900K is likely to be in high demand and may fetch a premium from buyers.
Keep in mind that K-series processors can still be overclocked, though this won’t add much benefit compared to the standard turbo settings.
Most of the core boost will come from the base turbo mechanism rather than overclocking.

I would focus on other factors besides the CPU unless you’re ready for the upcoming generation.
If you act now, you’ll secure a better option; delaying could mean missing out entirely.
There’s no guarantee these chips will last much longer.
You’ll likely get advice from AMD users.
AMD is viable, but Ryzen models are especially dependent on RAM for optimal speed and efficiency.
In the end, both AMD and Intel remain strong competitors across all price ranges.
The market remains dynamic.

I generally suggest that AMD users consider switching to AMD, while Intel users should upgrade to Intel.
The hardware setup is sufficient to stay within comfortable parameters.
