I’m seeking some guidance. Despite playing BF1 for years, I feel my system is underperforming, particularly in a busy and chaotic server environment where I notice minor lag. I suspect the issue stems from my CPU, which isn’t powerful enough to manage the demands of gaming on a full server.
I’m also thinking about upgrading my system for the upcoming BF6. What are your recommendations for the LGA 1151 platform, considering we need to accommodate BF6 as well? I want to ensure the CPU upgrade won’t limit the GPU performance. After BF6 launches, there’s a high likelihood I’ll need to upgrade the GPU as well.

16GB DDR4
Samsung 250GB SSD

The only chip you can install without altering the motherboard is the i7-7700K. For BF6, they are usually considered demanding on the CPU. By 2025, your setup should handle gaming, but not consistently at 60FPS at 1080p—the standard for now. You'll eventually need a better platform upgrade.
The Z270 supports only Intel cores from the 6th and 7th generation. A 9th generation CPU needs a board from the 300 series.
As mentioned before, the 7700k is the limit you can reach. In fact, you genuinely need a complete platform upgrade.
You notice the slowdown occurs even on a full server setup. It seems adding more cores would help. Consider upgrading to an i7-7700K processor, which increases available threads from 4 to 8. You might find it around $120 on eBay. Beyond that, a new motherboard and CPU would be necessary.
Yeah, I would say just swap platforms. You can stick with DDR4 with Intel, and their older chips are pretty well discounted.

12700K ($200) / 12700KF ($180) are also quite reasonably priced.
Yes, I believe this is the optimal choice. A used i7-7700k is already about $120, so the combined cost of $261 with a new CPU and motherboard would be more worthwhile.
I’m unsure how the RX480 will work with an I5-12600KF, but perhaps I’ll consider swapping the GPU instead.
The Corsair Vengeance 2 x 8 GB DDR4 3000Mhz (288-PIN DIMM) I already have should fit on that motherboard.
