You have the top-end 2009 iMac model. It's the oldest 27-inch version ever produced, yet it still looks good. Check out different macOS releases—El Capitan or High Sierra work well. If you go with El Cap, let me know—it requires some prep before installation.

Thanks. I’ll attempt it once the download is complete. Initially, when I tried to boot from the USB, nothing occurred—I wasn’t able to choose a drive from the menu. Could you clarify what steps were required before that?

Using gibmacos to retrieve OSX dmg files is common for hackintosh setups. It should function well for your needs.
