Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great day. Let me share my setup first: CPU – Ryzen 5 2600, RAM – Patriot viper elite 2x8 GB at 2666MHz, Mobo – Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite, GPU – Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB, PSU – Corsair RM650x. Everything is back to the original configuration (no overclocking).
I've noticed some issues lately. Sometimes I experience a sudden power cut just after launching Windows—usually once or twice a week. It's puzzling because it happens regardless of what I'm doing, whether I'm playing games or just browsing. I tried stress testing after turning on the PC, but everything worked fine without any issues. The temperatures were normal: CPU peaked at 58°C during Prime95, GPU stayed around 70°C in idle mode.
When the problem does occur, there are two patterns: either a complete power drop with no restart, or after about 10-15 seconds the system restarts itself. The first type is more frequent. I think the PSU or motherboard might be the culprit, but I'm leaning toward the motherboard since the PSU seems to function perfectly under load. It's frustrating because it's so rare and hard to recreate. Any advice from others would be greatly appreciated.
It might be the power supply unit as well. For instance, if a capacitor fails, voltage could vary leading to instability and possibly a complete shutdown. I’d start by swapping out the PSU to eliminate that possibility. If your existing PSU is still functional but outdated, you can attempt the change even if it doesn’t match your current wattage. In Windows, the actual power consumption will be minimal—just avoid running demanding tasks.
I'll likely try another power supply first... because swapping the whole motherboard wouldn't be such a problem. I wasn't expecting the Corsair RMx PSU to fail after just two years, especially with its seven-year warranty. It seems they probably use decent quality capacitors too, which is why I thought the motherboard was the main issue. I'm planning to borrow one from a friend soon. I'm hoping I can identify the problem and figure it out. I actually had a whole week where the computer ran perfectly, so figuring out which component is faulty will be tough.
