Hey everyone, I'm just a beginner in PC world. I don't really understand overclocking or all those technical things, but what I love is playing games. To play well, I need a good processor. Since I don't have much money, I bought an X4 965 BE with unlocked multiplayer for overclocking. My motherboard is an Asus Crosshair III formula, and I'm using an AMD stock cooler. Could anyone tell me what settings to use and how to check if everything is stable? Also, I'm using a 4-pin CPU connector because my PSU only has a 4-pin one, so I'm wondering if it's safe to overclock with this instead of the 8-pin version. Thanks!

That is a 10 year old CPU, even with overclocking it won't work well for any newer games.
There is a review of that board that includes specs and what they did to overclock it
https://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews..._iii/9.htm
With an old CPU and motherboard, probably a low quality power supply, I would just run the thing at stock if you want to make sure nothing fails on you.

It's a decent old model, shouldn't be too hard to handle if OC adjusts things properly. The simplest approach is to slightly increase the CPU multiplier, run a benchmark, and monitor temperatures and voltages. Keep testing until it becomes unstable, then gradually tweak the voltage. Results vary widely due to many influencing factors.

It won't match newer systems, but you might squeeze out more performance. I once had a comparable unit with identical CPU to a younger player who still runs older games like GTA and CoD on it.

If you're investing, look for a Phenom II 1060t or 1090t that should match the performance of an FX 6100 or similar.

How far I can travel with voltage without issues depends on various factors, so it's best to check the specific guidelines for your setup.

you can see it clearly through heat and temperature.
