You're facing desync issues, particularly in Rhythm games. What should you try next?
Hello everyone! I’m looking for a possible solution or at least some insight into the source of this issue.
I’ve been having sync problems while playing games, particularly in rhythm titles. In FPS shooters, I started noticing it even when I was just playing CS:GO. My character freezes, the crosshair stays on the target, and I can’t shoot the still-standing enemy. The same happens in VALORANT—this isn’t a skill problem either; I reached Ascendant 2 but couldn’t progress further due to this single issue.
It seems to occur when my refresh rate is higher or when I cap my FPS. The game feels unstable mechanically, especially above my refresh rate. This started after switching from 60Hz to 165Hz, possibly related to my motherboard. In rhythm games it’s even worse. For example, with osu!, I struggled to set my offset for about two years in the Offset Wizard, and I still see a significant time difference between seeing the circle approach and the music beat.
Just for fun, I tried playing at 60Hz again. I could easily adjust my offset and achieved an 87% stable rate on a map with 99.1% accuracy. When I went back to 165Hz, my rate dropped to 117%, nearly missing every note. It seems playing at 60Hz gives better results than my usual refresh rate. Then I experimented with 165Hz capped at 165fps using Gsync + fast sync, which reduced input lag and allowed me to set my offset successfully, achieving good accuracy in various maps.
So, as I was using an unlimited FPS limit or the optimal 960fps setting, I struggled to adjust my offset and hit the notes. Using Vsync helped a bit, but the problem remained. In the end, you might wonder why I haven’t tried playing at 165fps—possibly due to the delay it introduces. - in osu! I experience a minimum of 6.5ms delay. It may not seem significant, but it does matter.
Thanks in advance for reading this and for any future answers—I’d really appreciate them!
My PC specifications:
GPU: GTX 1650 SUPER
CPU: i5-10400F
RAM: 16 GB RAM - DDR4 2666 Mhz (With XMP)
Cooling system: Excellent
Motherboard: Gigabyte B460 HD3
Monitor: AOC 27G2SPAE 165Hz
When playing a rhythm game where timing depends on stable refresh rate, follow these steps:
In NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D settings, reset everything to default.
If possible, adjust "Monitor Technology" to "Fixed Refresh Rate".
Set "Vertical Sync" to "On".
You might also want to activate Low Latency Mode if available.
I also tried custom configurations earlier, but the default plus llm seems to work better. Vsync still has a lot of input lag, though fast sync could be a good alternative. Thanks for the feedback!
