I refer to the concept of data redundancy, meaning even if you lose a drive, you retain a "backup" containing all your information. This is different from simply storing data archives.

I know exactly what you mean. The files I need most are on the OS drive (Gen 5 M.2). When I load big videos or complex After Effects projects, that speed is essential. During off hours I’ll store the data on Large X4 Raid 1 and 3.5 HDDs. I don’t really focus on archive speed since I’ll be asleep and it should finish before I wake up, depending on how large the files are.

Being a physically dead drive is the top concern on the list of ways to lose data.
If you have a genuine backup and know how to restore it, then RAID 1 is all you need.
If you depend on RAID 1 for protection, you're going in the wrong direction.
A real backup doesn't necessarily have to be "cloud."

My main system receives a genuine backup each night.
It logs Incremental updates to my NAS.
Last week, I needed it again following an issue with a software update.
I believed the software was safe, but it actually installed unwanted programs despite my warnings.
After spending an hour troubleshooting, the only solution was restoring the OS drive from the previous night's backup.

I completely understand your point. I also use a 2 and a 4 bay NAS for storing my files. The Raid 1 serves as a basic protection to prevent data loss if a drive stops working before a regular backup.

It's frustrating when these things occur and it turns into a time vampire, but losing everything is much worse.

Only a few understand that a RAID is merely their sole method of data safety.
However, with a genuine backup solution, I remain convinced that RAID 1 isn't essential.

I understand it might sound repetitive, but I really appreciate having extra copies. Hardware reliability isn't guaranteed, and more backups mean better protection. You never know when an update could stop backing up your systems on certain days, or when files take too long to propagate, leaving you scrambling to recover work done the previous day. That's why I have multiple NAS setups—trust is something you must earn for your data.

Just to stay on topic, if I install the hardware from my first post, besides the 2% hit I'll take on the 4090, would there be any additional performance issues? If not, let me know this is your use case for that setup and I’ll run all the tests for the community, providing results in terms of performance and numbers.

Now that you're ready, proceed with the tests and assess the outcomes using any available information.
