Your Xbox 360 wired controller is being identified as a PS3 device.
I received my controller about two weeks ago and it functioned perfectly when plugged in. Games played smoothly, but now it doesn’t work except in a few titles. After extensive troubleshooting—about seven hours—I couldn’t locate a fix or someone else experiencing the same issue. Finally, I discovered it’s recognized as a PS3 controller. I attempted to update drivers via Windows, but nothing changed; I searched for drivers online and found only wireless ones. I tried numerous fixes on YouTube and other sites, yet no solution appeared. In the Device Manager I disabled, uninstalled, and replugged it, but the problem persisted. I’m unsure what’s wrong and would really appreciate assistance. All this started when I woke up, turned on a game, and used the controller—only to find it wasn’t working even though it was plugged in. I also tried other USB ports without success. I have no idea how or why this happened.
Through a lot of experimenting with the controller, I discovered the reason. It’s the home button on the middle that switches between players—so when I used it on another player, it displayed PS3 instead of Playstation 3. I thought it was a PlayStation 3, but it actually meant Player Selected 3. Feeling a bit confused, to be honest.
